“Our product offers some unique physico-chemical properties and an excellent balance in magnesium, calcium, iron and silicon”

PRODUCTS

Magnesitas Navarras is a vertically integrated producer of solutions and materials based on Magnesium Oxide (MgO) for the steelmaking, agriculture & livestock, and environmental sectors.

This company is a pioneer in the mining of magnesite, a mineral used as a fertiliser in agriculture and a natural substance used in cattle feed, while it is also used in industrial technologies and for soil and water remediation.

The magnesite deposit in Navarra, exploited by Magna, is one of the largest in Europe. Only 12 countries in the world produce significant amounts of magnesite. The company also operates another mine in Borobia (Soria – Spain) since 2017. Magna therefore has its own raw material deposits, giving the company a tremendous competitive advantage in the supply of this mineral, as well as reliable quality with long term prospects.

The properties of our products (grain size distribution, additives, mixtures, etc.) are achieved with ground-breaking technology. They are optimised on an ongoing basis by our R&D team, and also through cooperation with independent laboratories and universities.

Dedicated to the mining and marketing of magnesite and derivatives, Magna applies high-tech processes to manufacture the best refractory materials for the steel sector, the best caustic calcined magnesium for use in animal feed and agricultural fertiliser applications and the most innovative products for the environment.

Magnesite

Magnesite is a rare earth mineral. It can be used to provide excellent refractory materials for the steel sector, beneficial agricultural and livestock applications and innovative products for the environment, given the fact that its derivatives are vital for environmental restoration.

Magnesite comes basically from two sources: one, related to ultramafic rocks, and the other connected to sedimentary rocks with the presence of metasomatic phenomena, such as in Spain.

“Magnesite and its derivatives are an essential asset for humanity in the present and in the future”

Uses and applications

  • In agriculture: it is necessary for the photosynthesis of plants and is a vital component of fertilisers.
  • In livestock farming: it is an essential component in cattle feed, strengthening their defences, promoting fertility and protecting against stress.
  • In the environment: it is a powerful remediation tool, for both soils and waters contaminated with heavy metals.
  • In industry:
    • In pharmacology.
    • In steelmaking, thanks to its high refractory properties it is used for lining furnaces.
    • In alloys of different materials, such as aluminium. It is stronger than steel and four times lighter, making it suitable for use in the automotive sector, for the production of aircraft and spacecraft.
